I choose to use chemigrams to represent the Tarot deck, using household chemicals on light-sensitive photo paper. Tarot is a consistent aspect in the everyday craftwork of Wiccans and Pagans as a tool of divination used to try and give insight into a person's life. Random patterns and abstract illustrations are used to represent the arbitrary nature of everyday life around us. This deck will be connecting the storytelling aspects through symbolism that carries through the abstract backgrounds and scenes. Manipulating the cards with intentional color and figural symbolism affirms a close connection with the cards and readings. Creating tarot allows me to give myself a spiritual connection to the cards, the story they tell, and provide better interpretation for my practice, and to those participating in the readings.
